Company and legal owner

LEV ALEXANDER LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 14816976.

Registered office

80 West Street, North Creake, Fakenham, England, NR21 9LQ.

Altered is for adults aged 18 or over. It is a wellness, behaviour-change and self-improvement app for adults who want to stop drinking. It is not medical treatment, addiction treatment, detox support, therapy, counselling, crisis support or an emergency service.

Account deletion

You can initiate account deletion inside the Altered app from Settings > Account > Delete Account.

You can also request help with deletion by emailing lev@lev-alexander.com.

Deleting your Altered account removes your account and associated personal data from active systems, including synced Supabase progress data, except for data that must be kept for legal, tax, accounting, fraud prevention, security or safety reasons. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. Subscriptions must be managed through your Apple Account subscription settings.

Data export request

You can request a copy of personal data Altered holds about you by emailing lev@lev-alexander.com.

We may need to verify your identity before responding. We aim to respond within one month unless the request is complex or the law allows more time.

Altered Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how LEV ALEXANDER LIMITED, trading as Altered, collects, uses, stores and shares personal data when you use the Altered iOS app, websites or pages connected to the app, support channels and related services.

Altered is a wellness, behaviour-change and self-improvement app for adults who want to stop drinking. It is not medical treatment, addiction treatment, detox support, therapy, counselling, crisis support or an emergency service.

1. Who we are

The data controller is LEV ALEXANDER LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 14816976.

Registered office: 80 West Street, North Creake, Fakenham, England, NR21 9LQ.

Contact email for privacy, support, data access and deletion requests: lev@lev-alexander.com.

We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer at this stage. If that changes, we will update this Privacy Policy.

2. Minimum age

Altered is for users aged 18 or over. You must not use Altered if you are under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal data from someone under 18, we will delete it where required by law.

3. Data we collect

3.1 Account and login data

  • First name.
  • Email address.
  • Authentication identity and account ID.
  • Apple Sign In identifier if you use Apple Sign In.
  • Email and password login credentials if you choose email and password login. Passwords should be stored in protected form by the authentication provider and not as readable plain text.
  • Basic account status, settings and security information.
  • Onboarding information you choose to provide, including your future-self statement, weekly alcohol spend, weekly alcohol hours and selected deck holder colour.

3.2 Subscription and purchase data

  • Subscription product, entitlement status and access status.
  • App Store receipt and transaction identifiers where needed to confirm your purchase.
  • Trial status, renewal status, cancellation status and purchase history where made available by Apple or RevenueCat.

We do not receive or store your full payment card details. App Store payments are handled by Apple.

3.3 Sobriety, progress and app-use data

  • Sober day logs and drinking day logs that you choose to enter.
  • Total sober days, current sober streak, Chapter history, calendar status and missing-log status.
  • Opened cards, saved cards, discarded cards, pack progress, card library progress and member status.
  • Notification preferences and local reminder settings.
  • Panic tool usage where needed to operate or improve the app, such as use of guided breathing, guided walk or coin shine.

This data may be synced to Supabase so that your account and progress can work across supported devices and recover after reinstalling the app. Supabase will be configured to use an EU region where available for the Altered project.

3.4 Joy Vault and ritual entries

If you use the Growth Ritual, your gratitude entries are saved privately to your account in the Vault of Joy and synced to Supabase so they can be shown back to you later. This may include the three gratitude entries you write, the entry date, timezone, created and updated timestamps, derived word tokens and theme tags, and metadata used to avoid showing the same item too often.

The app may generate private Vault Update reports from your saved gratitude entries. These reports may include selected gratitude item IDs, word-orbit and theme-echo summaries, report period dates, total entry counts, generated timestamps, and whether the report was viewed or dismissed.

Release Ritual entries are designed to be private and temporary. They are not saved to your account, not synced to Supabase and not stored on our servers. The app may briefly process the text on your device to show the ritual animation, then the entry is discarded.

You should still avoid screenshots, screen recordings, third-party keyboards or device-level backups if you want ritual or Vault content to remain completely private, because those tools are outside our control.

3.5 Future-self identity text

Future-self identity text, if entered in the app, may be saved to your account so Altered can personalise onboarding and progress features. We do not use future-self identity text in community features.

3.6 Community cards

If you choose to submit a Sunday community card, we collect the text you submit, the member status shown with it and moderation information linked to the submission.

Community cards are intended to be anonymous to other users, but they are reviewed by a human moderator before they may be added to the community card archive. Cards are not placed into the live card pool until they pass moderation.

Do not include your name, contact details, another person’s identity, medical details, illegal content, or anything you would not want a moderator to read.

3.7 Support and feedback data

Emails, messages, attachments and other information you send to us for support, founder feedback, data export, data deletion, complaints or general enquiries.

The contact details needed to reply to you.

3.8 Device, security and diagnostics data

  • Device type, operating system, app version and language settings.
  • IP address, server logs and security events created by our hosting and infrastructure providers.
  • Push notification token if you opt in to notifications.
  • Crash logs, performance information and error reports if crash reporting is later enabled in the final build.

3.9 Analytics

At the time of writing, Altered does not use a third-party analytics or crash reporting tool. We may add privacy-conscious product analytics later, for example Mixpanel or a similar provider, to understand how the app is used and to improve the product.

If analytics are enabled, we intend to use anonymous, aggregated or pseudonymous event data where possible. Analytics must not intentionally include ritual entries, future-self identity text, community card text, support message content, or other free-text sensitive content. We will not use analytics for third-party advertising tracking.

If future analytics can reasonably identify you, we will treat that data as personal data and update this Privacy Policy and App Store privacy information where required.

3.10 Data we do not plan to collect

Altered does not plan to collect precise location, contacts, camera data, microphone data, HealthKit data, biometric data, advertising tracking data, or social-network friend data. If this changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and ask for any permissions required by Apple or law.

Alfie, the in-app host, is scripted. Altered does not use AI chat or AI decision-making at launch.

4. Sensitive data and explicit consent

Sobriety logs, drinking logs, Chapter history, Joy Vault gratitude entries, Vault Update reports, community card content, onboarding alcohol-use inputs and related app progress may reveal information about your wellbeing, alcohol use or personal life. In some countries, including the UK and EU, some of this may be treated as health-related or special category data.

Where required, we rely on your explicit consent to process this sensitive data for the purpose of providing Altered. You give this consent when you choose to create an account and use features that involve sobriety tracking, drinking logs, Joy Vault storage, community cards or related progress features after being shown the relevant privacy information.

You can withdraw consent by deleting your account in the app or contacting us. If you withdraw consent, some or all of Altered may stop working for you because sobriety tracking and synced progress are core parts of the service.

5. How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To authenticate you through Apple Sign In or email and password login.
  • To provide the core app experience: sober tracking, card packs, saved cards, member status, Joy Vault gratitude storage, Vault Update reports, community cards, panic tools, notifications and settings.
  • To sync your sobriety logs, Joy Vault entries, progress and app state through Supabase where needed.
  • To manage your membership, free trial and access rights.
  • To cache content so the app can work offline once necessary content has been downloaded.
  • To moderate community cards and protect users from harmful or inappropriate content.
  • To respond to support, deletion, export, feedback and complaint requests.
  • To diagnose bugs, protect security and prevent fraud or misuse.
  • To understand product performance and improve the app if anonymous, aggregated or pseudonymous analytics are enabled.
  • To comply with legal, tax, accounting and regulatory obligations.

6. Lawful bases

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK data protection law where they apply:

  • Contract: to provide the app, account, membership, subscription features and support you request.
  • Consent and explicit consent: for push notifications, optional community submissions, Joy Vault entries and sensitive alcohol-use or wellbeing data where required.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure the app, prevent misuse, fix bugs, understand service performance and improve the product in a privacy-conscious way.
  • Legal obligation: to keep records required by law and respond to lawful requests.
  • Vital interests: only in rare situations where processing is necessary to protect someone’s life or physical safety.

7. Who we share data with

We only share personal data where necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. This may include:

  • Apple, for App Store payments, subscriptions, app distribution, Apple Sign In, app review and platform services.
  • RevenueCat, for subscription entitlement management and purchase status.
  • Supabase, for authentication, database, remote storage, card content, Joy Vault entries, Vault Update reports, community card moderation, synced progress and entitlement-related state. The Altered Supabase project is intended to use an EU region.
  • Mixpanel or a similar analytics provider if analytics are enabled later, limited to anonymous, aggregated or pseudonymous analytics where possible.
  • Hosting, infrastructure, security and email/support providers used to operate the app and support inbox.
  • Professional advisers, insurers, accountants and legal advisers where necessary.
  • Law enforcement, regulators or courts where required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety or security.

We require service providers that process personal data for us to protect that data and use it only for the services they provide to us.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your personal data for third-party advertising tracking.

8. International transfers

Although the Altered Supabase project is intended to use an EU region, some providers may process personal data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where this happens, we use appropriate safeguards where required, such as adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent contractual and security protections.

9. Notifications

Altered may offer optional notifications for morning card openings, evening sobriety logging, the Growth Ritual and the Sunday community ritual. Notifications are opt-in and adjustable. You can turn them off in the app settings or your iOS settings. We do not require notifications for the app to function.

Notifications should not contain sensitive personal details.

10. Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Our current intended retention approach is:

  • Account data: while your account is active, then deleted or anonymised after account deletion unless we are legally required to keep it.
  • Sobriety logs, drinking logs, Joy Vault entries, Vault Update reports and synced progress data: while your account is active, then deleted from active systems after account deletion unless legal retention applies.
  • Release Ritual entries: not saved by Altered and deleted immediately after the ritual experience.
  • Future-self identity text: kept while your account is active, then deleted from active systems after account deletion unless legal retention applies.
  • Community cards: kept while needed for moderation and the community archive. When you delete your account, cards linked to your account will be deleted or irreversibly anonymised unless the law requires retention.
  • Support emails: normally up to 3 years after the last contact unless needed for legal reasons.
  • Transaction and accounting records: normally up to 7 years where required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention or legal claims.
  • Analytics data, if enabled: normally kept in anonymous, aggregated or pseudonymous form for as long as useful for product improvement, and personal analytics data will be deleted or anonymised when no longer needed.
  • Backups: deleted or overwritten on a rolling basis, normally within 90 days where technically possible.

11. Account deletion and data deletion

You can initiate deletion of your account from within the app. The intended route is Settings > Account > Delete Account. You can also contact us at the email address above if you need help.

Deleting your account removes your account and associated personal data from our active systems, including synced Supabase progress data, except for data we must keep for legal, tax, accounting, fraud prevention, security or safety reasons.

If you used Apple Sign In, the app should revoke the relevant Apple Sign In token as part of account deletion where required by Apple. If deletion will take time, we will tell you and confirm when it is complete.

Deleting your Altered account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. You should manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account subscription settings.

12. Data export

You can request a copy of personal data we hold about you by contacting us. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We aim to respond within one month unless the request is complex or the law allows more time.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live and the data involved, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data.
  • Correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Delete personal data.
  • Restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Receive a portable copy of certain data.
  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
  • Complain to a data protection regulator.

In the UK, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to help first, so please contact us if you have concerns.

14. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including access controls, authentication, encryption in transit where appropriate, backups, service provider controls and least-privilege access where practical. No system is completely secure, so you should also protect your device, Apple Account and app login details.

15. Worldwide users

Altered may be available outside the United Kingdom. If local law gives you additional privacy rights, we will respect those rights where they apply to us. Some features, prices, rights and legal wording may vary by country or region.

16. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, law, service providers or data practices change. We will update the date above and, where required, notify you in the app or by another appropriate method.

17. Contact

For privacy questions, data requests, deletion requests or complaints, contact LEV ALEXANDER LIMITED at lev@lev-alexander.com.

Altered Terms of Use

These Terms of Use apply to your use of the Altered iOS app and related services. The app is operated by LEV ALEXANDER LIMITED, trading as Altered.

By downloading, accessing or using Altered, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

For downloads through the Apple App Store, Apple’s standard end user licence agreement also applies unless we publish a custom licence agreement in App Store Connect. These Terms sit alongside that Apple standard licence and cover the Altered service, account, membership, content and conduct rules.

1. About Altered

Altered is a premium iOS wellness, behaviour-change and self-improvement app designed to support adults who want to stop drinking. It includes sober tracking, card packs, rituals, private Vault of Joy gratitude storage, panic tools, notifications, community cards and scripted messages from Alfie.

Altered is not medical treatment, addiction treatment, therapy, counselling, detox support, diagnosis, crisis support or emergency support. It does not claim to cure addiction or any medical condition.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Altered. By using the app, you confirm that you are 18 or over and that you can enter into a binding agreement.

You must not use Altered where it would be unlawful for you to do so.

3. Health and safety

Altered is a self-improvement tool. It is not a substitute for medical advice, clinical treatment, counselling, emergency services or professional support.

If you think you may be physically dependent on alcohol, stopping suddenly may be dangerous. Speak to a qualified medical professional before making major changes to your drinking. If you feel at risk of harming yourself or someone else, or if there is an emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.

You are responsible for your decisions and actions. Altered can support reflection and habit change, but it cannot guarantee sobriety, prevent relapse, prevent harm, or make decisions for you.

4. Account and login

You need an account to use Altered. You can create an account using Apple Sign In or email and password login, depending on the options available in the app.

You agree to provide accurate information, keep your login details secure and tell us if you think your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity on your account unless caused by our breach of these Terms or applicable law.

If your account uses Apple Sign In or another authentication provider, you must also comply with that provider’s terms.

5. Membership, free trial and payments

Altered is hard paywalled at launch and may offer a 3-day free trial. Access to the app requires an active paid membership unless we choose to offer another access route.

The current UK membership products are:

  • Altered Membership Monthly: £5.99 per month.
  • Altered Membership Yearly: £49.99 per year.
  • Altered Membership Lifetime: £89.99 one-off purchase.

Prices may vary by country, currency, tax treatment, Apple pricing tier, promotion or App Store territory. The final price, trial period, renewal period and payment terms shown by Apple before purchase are the terms that apply to your purchase.

Monthly and yearly memberships are auto-renewing subscriptions. They renew unless you cancel through your Apple Account subscription settings before renewal, as explained by Apple at purchase and in your Apple Account.

If you start a free trial, it will convert into a paid membership unless you cancel before the trial ends. Deleting the app or deleting your Altered account does not automatically cancel your App Store subscription.

The lifetime membership is a one-off purchase that gives access to the Altered app for as long as we operate and support the Altered app and the lifetime product, subject to these Terms and applicable law. It is not transferable, not a promise that the app will exist forever, and not a promise that every future feature will be included at no additional cost.

RevenueCat may be used to help us manage membership entitlements. Apple handles payment processing. We do not receive or store your full card details.

Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, subject to Apple’s policies and applicable law. We cannot guarantee that Apple will grant a refund.

6. Licence to use the app

Subject to these Terms and Apple’s standard end user licence agreement, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Altered for your own personal, non-commercial purposes on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by Apple’s usage rules.

You must not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, attempt to derive source code from, rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, sublicense or make the app available over a network, except where applicable law permits this despite these restrictions.

7. Your content

Some features allow you to enter content, including Joy Vault gratitude entries, community cards, support messages, feedback and onboarding text.

You are responsible for the content you submit. You must not submit content that:

  • Identifies another person without their permission.
  • Includes personal contact details in community cards.
  • Encourages drinking, self-harm, violence, harassment, illegal activity or unsafe behaviour.
  • Contains medical advice, diagnosis or treatment instructions.
  • Is abusive, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, exploitative, threatening, defamatory or otherwise harmful.
  • Infringes someone else’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights.
  • Contains spam, malware, advertising or solicitation.

For community cards, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to review, moderate, store, edit for safety or formatting, display and distribute the card anonymously within Altered and related Altered services. This licence exists only so we can operate the community card feature. You retain any rights you have in your content.

We may reject, remove, anonymise or edit community card content where we reasonably believe this is needed for safety, moderation, legal compliance or product quality.

For Joy Vault gratitude entries, you give us permission to store and process the entries and related summaries only as needed to provide the private Vault of Joy and Vault Update features, sync your account, maintain security and comply with law. Joy Vault entries are not intended for public display or community distribution.

8. Joy Vault, ritual entries and future-self identity text

Growth Ritual gratitude entries are saved privately in your Vault of Joy and may be used to create private Vault Update reports for your account. Release Ritual entries are designed to be temporary, are not saved by Altered and should be deleted immediately after the relevant app experience has used them.

Future-self identity text and onboarding inputs may be saved to your account to provide and personalise Altered. You are responsible for deciding what you write and for keeping your device private while using these features.

9. Community cards and moderation

Community card features are optional. Cards may be written by users or drawn from an archive. User-submitted cards require human moderation before entering the live card pool. We do not guarantee that any card will be accepted, displayed, delivered or received.

Community cards are not professional advice and should not be treated as medical, clinical, legal, financial or emergency guidance.

10. Notifications

Notifications are optional and can be managed in the app settings or iOS settings. Notifications may include reminders for card openings, sobriety logging, Growth Ritual, Joy Vault reflection and Sunday community ritual. You must not rely on notifications as safety-critical reminders.

11. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the app for unlawful, harmful, abusive or fraudulent purposes.
  • Try to gain unauthorised access to the app, servers, accounts or data.
  • Interfere with the app’s security, moderation, payment or entitlement systems.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, copy, overload or manipulate the app.
  • Misrepresent yourself or impersonate someone else.
  • Use the app to provide medical, counselling, crisis or addiction treatment services to others without appropriate qualifications and permissions.

12. Intellectual property

Altered, the Altered name, House of Altered, Altered Method, Alfie, app content, card content, design, animations, artwork, software, text, audio and other materials are owned by us or our licensors, except for content you submit and third-party materials used under licence.

You may use app content for your personal, non-commercial use within the app. You must not copy, publish, sell, distribute or exploit Altered content outside the app without written permission.

13. Third-party services

Altered may use third-party services such as Apple, RevenueCat, Supabase, Mixpanel if analytics are enabled, and other hosting, security, email or support providers. Your use of the app may also be subject to those providers’ terms and policies.

We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, but we choose providers with care and explain relevant data practices in our Privacy Policy.

14. Availability, changes and offline use

We aim to provide a high-quality app, but we do not guarantee that Altered will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with every device, operating system or future Apple software update.

The app is intended to work offline for certain cached features once necessary content has been downloaded. Some features, including sync, account, membership checks, Joy Vault backup and reports, support and community cards, may require internet access.

We may update, change, suspend or discontinue features where reasonably necessary, including for safety, legal, technical, commercial or product reasons.

15. Account deletion and termination

You can initiate account deletion inside the app. The intended route is Settings > Account > Delete Account. You may also contact us for help. Deleting your account removes your account and associated personal data from our active systems, subject to legal retention requirements explained in our Privacy Policy.

Deleting your Altered account does not automatically cancel any active App Store subscription. You must cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account subscription settings.

We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the app, create safety risks, infringe rights, or if we are required to do so by law.

16. Warranty and liability

Altered is provided with reasonable skill and care. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not promise that the app will achieve a particular result, prevent relapse, improve health, or meet every personal expectation.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to the paragraph above, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or purely economic losses, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.

17. Consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights. If you are a consumer outside the United Kingdom, you may also have mandatory rights under the laws of your country or region.

18. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal data. By using Altered, you should read the Privacy Policy alongside these Terms.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the app, law, membership products, pricing, service providers or business model change. We will update the date above and, where required, notify you in the app or by another appropriate method. If you continue using Altered after the updated Terms take effect, you accept the updated Terms.

20. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country or region require otherwise. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

21. Contact

For support, legal notices or questions about these Terms, contact LEV ALEXANDER LIMITED at lev@lev-alexander.com.
